Sermon: “Restoration” – Psalm 85 – Pastor Mark Rogers

A Word from Our Bulletin:

There are seasons when the believer, once warm in heart and steadfast in devotion, finds himself cold and far from the joy he once knew. Duties remain, but delight has faded; prayer is offered, but with heaviness; and the memory of former nearness to God becomes both a comfort and a sorrow.

Yet the mercy of God is not withdrawn from His wandering children. He does not cast off those whom He has loved, nor does He abandon the soul that still bears the marks of His grace. The Lord deals tenderly with His backsliding ones, not to break them beyond recovery, but to bring them back to Himself.

Often He restores by awakening remembrance—calling the heart to recall former communion, former peace, and former joy in His presence. He allows conviction to do its gentle work, not to destroy, but to heal. In this, His discipline is the kindness of a Father who refuses to leave His child in ruin.

The restored soul does not return in pride, but in humility. It comes back with empty hands, yet finds them filled with mercy. It comes back weary, yet is made to rejoice again in grace that has not diminished.

The Lord restores His people not reluctantly, but willingly, delighting to renew fellowship with those who turn again to Him. And in that restoration, the heart learns anew that His grace is deeper than our wandering, and His love stronger than our failure.
